Clark Sabine: 1975-2009

Clark passed away last night. I just got the news & now I am sad. He was a fantastic musician & performer & great guy. He was the singer & songwriter of the DC band Statehood, was the leader of musical dilemma known as The Motorcycle Wars & half of a little-known kraut-romp band The Halo Project. He was probably in more bands & did more things of note, but those are the ones I know & love.
Clark & I were not close friends, rather, I always thought we'd become friends. We passed the occasional email or message back & forth, but most of the times I hung out with him were with groups of people. I remember exchanging numbers with him on numerous occasions with the plans of getting together, & then somehow losing the number by morning in that way that assumes the future doesn't end.
The memories I have of hanging out with him involve rambling, ecstatic conversations & goofy late-night adventures across the cobblestones & shadows of DC. They involve that desire to find meaning & bliss in the noisy, trundling theater of punk shows, whether he was on stage or with me in the crowd. He was full of life & joy & he seemed completely open to whatever could happen & when I spent time with him I felt like I was at the exact right place to be.
His friends can elegize him properly. All I know is that he's no longer with us & that I am sad about that fact.
